Autonomous runner with assistance
The Autonomous runner with assistance category allows people whose physical, intellectual or visual limitations affect their ability to run and take part in events.
Eligibility
Any participant with a physical, intellectual or visual disability which significantly limits their ability to run is eligible for this category. The participant must be able to run the entire distance of the event on his or her own effort. The participant who registers via this program must be accompanied by a support runner. The organization reserves the right to request medical documentation to confirm eligibility for this category.
Eligible races
All races are open to eligible riders.
Guide runner (visual impairement)
Participants with a visual impairment may have a guide runner. This person will receive a free race number, but will not have a timing chip. Therefore, the time recorded will be that of the visually impaired runner only. If the guide runner wishes to obtain the runner’s kit, the medal and an official time, a 50% discount is offered on the regular registration fee.
Support runner (physical or intellectual disability)
A participant with a physical or intellectual disability may be accompanied by a support runner who can assist him/her during the event (provide directions, help at the aid stations, etc.). The support runner will receive a free bib, but will not have a timing chip. Therefore, the time recorded will be that of the runner with a disability only. If the support runner wishes to obtain the runner’s kit, the medal and an official time, a 50% discount is offered on the regular registration price.
Registration
Both participants must register via the Race Roster platform. The eligible athlete must register first via the Race Roster platform. The athlete’s fees are the regular prices in effect at the time of registration.
Upon registration, the athlete will receive an email with a promotional code for the support runner. A 50% discount is offered on the regular registration price if the support runner wishes to obtain the runner’s kit, the medal and an official time . If the support runner only wishes to accompany the athlete, registration is free.
Bib
A special bib will be given to the athlete and his/her guide or support runner so that other athletes and volunteers can easily identify the athlete with a disability.
Regulations
Athletes must abide by the general rules of the event. The wearing of headphones (to listen to music) for athletes in this category is strictly prohibited.
Specific rules applicable to the guide runner
- If used, the tie between the runner and the guide must not exceed 61 cm in length.
- It is mandatory that the athlete and his guide have trained together before their event.
Specific rules applicable to the support runner
- The support runner may not push, carry or pull the athlete he/she is accompanying during the race.
- The support runner may not have prolonged physical contact with the athlete he/she is accompanying. The support runner may assist the athlete to regain balance, get up, etc.
Ranking
No distinctive ranking will be produced. The athlete will be ranked in the general classification.
Duo
The DUO category includes an athlete runner and a person whose disability does not allow them to move independently in a wheelchair (example: people with cerebral palsy). Please note that the wheelchair must be designed for running events.
Eligible races
The DUO program is allowed in all races.
Registration
Only the participant who will be pushing the wheelchair must register via the Race Roster platform. This person will also provide the information for the athlete who will be in the wheelchair.
The price of registration is the regular registration fee. Your registration will include two bibs (one for each athlete), two runner kits and two medals.
Bib
A bib will be given to both athletes. Bibs must be worn at all times during the race. Only the wheelchair athlete’s bib will have a timing chip.
Regulations
- The wheelchair athlete must be securely strapped in at all times and remain in the wheelchair for the entire race.
- The racer must maintain control of the chair at all times. The runner must have one hand on the wheelchair at all times.
- The chair must be suitable for running.
- Strollers and regular wheelchairs are not eligible. Chairs with motors or gears are not permitted.
- Headphones (to listen to music) are strictly prohibited for athletes in this category.
Rankings
Only one time per team will be recorded. The name of your team will appear in the general rankings.
Wheelchair
The Marathon Beneva de Montréal is pleased to welcome wheelchairs in all races.
Conditions for participation
In order to participate in the races, the wheelchair athlete must be accompanied by a support rider. The support rider must have their hands on the wheelchair handles at all times. The support rider does not have to push the wheelchair athlete, he/she must simply be ready to intervene if necessary (for example, slowing down the chair on a descent). Therefore, for safety reasons, we will refuse access to any person in a wheelchair who is not accompanied by a support runner.
The wheelchair participant will have to start at the end of the assigned starting gate.
