History of the Montréal Marathon, a return to its origins
The Montréal Marathon is a story of challenges and successes, a vision of a healthy community, and a family history driven by a passion for sport and its unwavering values.
Founded in 1979 by renowned sports journalist Serge Arsenault, the Marathon International de Montréal has been run 12 times under his leadership. His brother, Bernard Arsenault, then reshaped this annual sports weekend under other banners according to the trends and needs of the participants, in collaboration with their loyal colleague from the first editions, Mario Blain, as director of operations.
Following the cancellation of the event in 2020 due to the pandemic, the businessman, producer, director and CEO of the Serdy Group from 2004 to 2019 Sébastien Arsenault is awarded the organization of the Marathon. He takes up the family torch with an equally qualified and close-knit team used to working together. He is also the promoter of the Grands Prix Cyclistes de Québec et de Montréal.
